What to Look for in a POV Camera – Important Facts You Need to Know
With the many point-of-view cameras available in the market today, the hunt for finding the best POV camera can be very confusing. With the many camera manufacturers offering their sales pitches and promoting the various features of their products, choosing the best helmet camera is not easy. But there are certain features of a helmet camera that you should look for. Read on to find out what these are
For starters, you should look for video resolutions of 1080p. These are high-definition cameras and will ensure crisp images and videos. There are still cameras with lower resolutions in the market but it would be better in the long run if you choose a camera that give higher video quality. Besides the price difference isn’t that big and if you can save up some dollars more, the investment in a camera with a better video resolution will be worth it. You will also have to look at other specifications, including the battery life, the type of angle lens it has, the number of still images it can take and the number of hours of video it can record.
Look for a durable camera with shockproof, weatherproof and waterproof housing. Remember that you will be taking your camera with you under all sorts of weather conditions and geographical locations. In extreme sports, there is always a chance that the POV camera will drop or fall. Always ensure that the camera you choose can withstand all these. If you’re planning water expeditions with your camera, make sure that it is totally waterproof.
Another important consideration is the types of mounts that come with your camera. Does it come with Velcro straps, mounting clips or wearable harnesses? Will you be able to purchase accessories for additional mounts for your camera? The more mounting options it has, the better it is going to be since you can mount these anywhere you wish. Besides the mounts, you might also want to check out the other accessories that come with the camera. At the very least, it should have the rechargeable batteries, mounts, battery charger and shockproof housing. When you add up all these extras, they can be quite hefty and looking for a camera with all these added accessories included will definitely make for a cheaper purchase.
You should also look for a camera with a reasonable price for the features it offers. You can get a good camera with decent features for about $300. There are obviously cheaper and more expensive models out in the market but at around $100, you’ll only get standard definition camera models. The more expensive ones may have additional features that you might not also need. Also, some brands are inherently more expensive than others, so it pays to look around for the best prices.
Finally, don’t ignore customer feedback of a particular point-of-view camera. This may not be a camera feature, but it matters a lot in your final choice. Always take these factors in consideration before going out to purchase your first POV camera.
Lastly, you should definitely have a look at the GoPro HERO, it’s excellent. Also, check out this GoPro HD Motorsports review.

POV: Farmingville $12.74 Carlos Sandoval and Catherine Tambini direct Farmingville, a documentary about a suburban community torn apart by illegal immigration. In 2000, a conflict erupted resulting in the deaths of two Mexican workers at the hands of white men. The next year, Sandoval — a former New York lawyer with no filmmaking experience — moved to the Farmingville area of Long Island to make the film. He and Tambini attempt to present both sides of the issue in order to make a balanced argument. Farmingville is home to both wealthy home owners and immigrant day laborers, and each side has its share of activists. Farmingville was part of the documentary competition at the Sundance Film Festival before receiving a broadcast premiere on the PBS series P.O.V. ~ Andrea LeVasseur, Rovi |
